Diaspora Hawaiians
Diaspora Hawaiians Can Help With My Study!
If you are Hawaiian, speak any language, and are living in the diaspora (outside of Hawaiʻi), we have an additional study for you.
In this study you will need to describe your experiences learning how to speak Hawaiian as a diaspora Kānaka Maoli. Your manaʻo will be used to inform educational materials for diaspora Hawaiian language learners in the future!
- All participants who complete the study will be compensated with your choice of a $15 USD Amazon Gift card, Zippy's Gift card or a $15 USD donation to ka ‘Aha Pūnana Leo immersion schools.
- The study is completely online.
- You must be 18 years of age to participate.
- You must be Hawaiian (Kānaka Maoli).
- You must have grown up or spent substantial time living in the diaspora (outside of Hawaiʻi).
- The task will take no more than 50 minutes to complete.
In this study you will:
Part 1: survey about diaspora experiences learning ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (20 min)
Part 2: complete a language background questionnaire (15 min)
Part 3: fill out a survey regarding questions on your language attitudes (15 min)
If you participated in Study 1 or 2, this study will only take you 30 minutes (you will be able to skip parts 1 and 3).
